Half Term Activities: Sun Printing (Cyanotypes)
October 27, 2021
Using pre-prepared paper, children collect leaves and flowers from the garden to act as the resist. They decide on their design, set it out on the paper, then take it outside and wait for the sun to work its magic. It’s a bit science-y and a bit arty and you can have any colour you want, as long as it’s blue! This can be done in full sun or if it’s overcast. We won’t be able to do it if it’s raining but as an alternative can do Gelli printing and they can go home with ready-to-use cyanotype paper and instruction how to do it at home.
There is a little bit of waiting time while the prints are exposed to the sunlight, if you bring a packed lunch, you can turn it into a printmaking party.
Suitable for ages 6+
Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
