On New Year’s Day 2025, sadly, a large section of the east Walled Garden wall was blown down in a storm.
The wall was immediately made safe and the site cleared, salvaging as many of the bricks as possible for the rebuild. Our gardening team also saved the majority of the shrubs, wall climbers and plants which have been relocated elsewhere within our gardens.
A small section of the west wall was also damaged, and that remains temporarily sectioned off with buttresses in place to make the area safe. We have been working closely with The Morton Partnership, our building surveyors, and have a full specification for the rebuilding work. Colman Contractors from Canterbury, who specialise in all types of historic building and conservation works, have been instructed to carry out the works which is due to commence during July. The works should take approximately 16 weeks, and we hope it will be completed towards the end of 2025.
In the meantime, we would like to apologise for any inconvenience, disturbance or lack of enjoyment that these works might cause during your visit, but we encourage you to enjoy all the other wonderful areas in our gardens here at Belmont.
